CDRH Careers Planning Framework

CDRH looks at the talent in the organization through a functional and competency-based framework called the "CDRH Careers Planning Framework." The framework consists of clusters and roles. It helps address the Center's growing need for exceptional talent and serves as a foundation for growth for Center employees.
Clusters: Clusters group together the work performed across CDRH. Intentionally designed to be independent from organizational structures, the CDRH clusters represent major work categories, not specific organizational units.
There are eight clusters in the framework; seven technical clusters and one management and leadership cluster.
Roles: Roles are groupings of similar activities, tasks, and duties. Like clusters, roles are independent of organizational structure and represent major work functions that often encompass multiple organizational units, job series, and positions. In most cases, multiple position titles and occupational series align to a role.
The framework serves as a foundation for career exploration, planning, and development within the Center. It is designed to reflect the range of expertise in our workforce and the complexity of the work being performed.
